Why we were set up

The Natural Capital Committee was established in 2012 to provide expert, independent advice to Government on the state of England’s natural capital. It was set up following a commitment in the landmark 2011 Natural Environment White Paper, which was titled The Natural Choice: Securing the Value of Nature.

What we do

To meet its Terms of Reference up to 2015, the Natural Capital Committee has a number of work-streams. Collectively, these work-streams aim to integrate natural capital - https://www.flickr.com/search/?q=capital into England’s economy.

Who we are

The Natural Capital Committee is chaired by Professor Dieter Helm and has seven members from academia and business. The Committee brings together expertise and experience in ecology and environmental science, economics and business. The members are: Giles Atkinson, Ian Bateman, Rosemary Hails, Kerry ten Kate, Georgina Mace, Colin Mayer and Robin Smale.
